Carpet side

Carpet side is the name for a designed cover sheet in medieval Christian, Jewish and Muslim manuscripts . It was mostly provided with ornamental designs, in later centuries also with a representation of a person ( Theodor Gospels ).

A carpet page was usually at the beginning of a section of the manuscript, for example in Gospels before each Gospel .
