Terence Smith took part in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne with Jasper Blackall in the Sharpie boat class . With 4859 total points they finished the regatta behind the New Zealand Olympic champions Jack Cropp and Peter Mander and the Australian duo John Scott and Rolly Tasker in third place and thus received the bronze medal.
