Teresa K. "Terri" Attwood (born November 20, 1959 ) is a British professor of bioinformatics in the faculties of computer science and life sciences at the University of Manchester and visiting scholar at the European Institute for Bioinformatics (EMBL-EBI). She works as a biocurator in the field of protein analysis and protein sequencing .

Act

Attwood received her Bachelor of Science degree in biophysics from the University of Leeds in 1982 . There she worked in research until 1993 and received her doctorate in 1984. In 1993 she received a research fellowship from the Royal Society and moved to University College London . On a scholarship until 2002, Attwood moved to Manchester in 1999, where she received the professorship in bioinformatics in 2001.

Your research area is protein analysis. After Amos Bairoch created the PROSITE database , Attwood worked with him to standardize the classification and annotation of protein families. Together with Rolf Apweiler , she received a grant from the European Union in 1997 to develop the InterPro database .

In the field of molecular biology , Attwood created the PRINTS database for peptide mass fingerprinting . With Stephen Robert Pettifer she developed the tool UTOPIA (User-friendly tools for operating Informatics Applications) for protein analysis.

Attwood is currently chair of EMBnet , the European network of molecular biologists, and holds other offices and positions. On her initiative, GOBLET (Global Organization for Teaching, Education and Training in Bioinformatics) was founded in 2012 , where she has been chairwoman of the board since 2016.
