Josef Böck (musician)

Josef Böck (* 1940 in Vienna ; † January 22, 2019 ) was an Austrian choir director and church musician .

Life

Josef Böck studied church and school music, organ, composition and classical philology. 1961 to 1963 followed the artistic maturity examination for organ, diploma for composition and teaching examination for music education. He completed his organ studies with Leopold Marksteiner and Hans Haselböck .

After a few years as a répétiteur with the Vienna Jeunesse Choir and Latin teacher with the Vienna Boys' Choir, Böck worked for 26 years at the Vienna State Opera for 26 years as répétiteur of the State Opera Choir, assistant to the choir director and head of the choir's Elevenschule. Choir director Norbert Balatsch brought him to Bayreuth as an assistant.

This was followed by a state opera tour under Leonard Bernstein in the USA, a Japan tour under Karl Böhm , choral work at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, 5 years as choir master of the Vienna men's choir and conductor of choir orchestral concerts, second choir director at the Salzburg Festival , choir director at the Santa Cruz Opera Festival, Tenerife, permanent guest choir conductor in Mexico City and the “ Freischütz ” production at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées , Paris.

In terms of church music, Böck was already a répétiteur of the Don Bosco Choir of the Neuerdberg parish during his student years, and of the Schubertkirche Lichtental for 20 years, where he also functioned as high official organist, and as a concert organist. In 1968 he played the entire "Nativité du Seigneur" on the occasion of the consecration of the organ in St. Ursula. This was followed by organ concerts on important instruments at home and abroad, radio and CD recordings.

The Austrian Federal President conferred the title of professor in 2001.
