history

Construction of the Alvorada Terminal began in the early 1980s, and it was inaugurated in 1981. This was preceded by a sharp increase in population in the Barra da Tijuca district. Initially, only 11 lines were served from here.

In December 2011, with the start of construction of the Transcarioca - Bus Rapid Transit system and the BRT TransOeste line , the terminal was completely renovated. A parking lot with a capacity for 24 buses for the BRT vehicles was added, which was later expanded to 60 spaces. A further 39 parking spaces are available for the city buses. In addition, the terminal received a control center for the BRT buses, a parking lot with 200 parking spaces, shops and a building for the administration of the terminal. Two tunnels connect the bus platforms, the parking lots and the Cidade das Artes, and two ramps can be used to exit the terminal to the east and west.

The terminal was reopened on December 24, 2013 and from June 2014 the terminal was the terminus of the TransOeste line, which now ends at Jardim Oceânico station with the extension of the line to the west . To improve the infrastructure, more than R $ 800,000 were invested in the Alvorada terminal during the renovation . It now has three platforms A, B and C, through which 48 bus routes are handled. It is also a transfer station for the BRT lines Transoeste and Transcarioca. The terminal has a capacity of more than 50,000 people per day.
