In the park, the original vegetation that prevailed near the Atlantic Ocean in the region of Barra da Tijuca has been preserved. Parts of this vegetation as it appears today can also be referred to as dry mangroves because many of their roots are no longer constantly in water.

history

After colonization, the area of the Baixada de Jacarepaguá was partly used for the cultivation of sugar cane. Since the area was very difficult to reach, large parts of it remained untouched. Urbanization only began here in the second half of the 20th century. First, parts of the area were drained and holiday homes built by the sea. In the 1960s, solid roads and houses were built. In 1983 Arruda Camara Park was named after the Portuguese-Brazilian botanist Manoel Arruda da Cámara . In 1992 it got its current name. As part of the Costal Flora Project , the typical vegetation of the coastal plain was started back in the park in 1992.
