Terrakota is a world music band from Portugal .

The band was formed in 1999 when some Lisbon musicians came back from a long stay in Burkina Faso , where they were impressed by the people, villages and cultures there.

Her music is also influenced by reggae , but also by Brazilian music . The band also played a lot abroad, even for longer periods and sometimes as street musicians .

In 2004 they recorded their second album ( Humus Sapiens ) in Dakar , in the studio of Youssou N'Dour . Afterwards they traveled around the world and played concerts in countries like Argentina, Burkina Faso, India, Cuba, Morocco and Turkey, and others. They also played at numerous world music festivals across Europe. Since then, they have released two more albums, recently with increased Indian influences. In accordance with their stance critical of capitalism , they continue to publish on independent labels and operate largely outside the commercial structures of the light music industry.
