Tesfaye Deriba Ketema (born September 11, 1998 ) is an Ethiopian athlete who specializes in the obstacle course .

Athletic career

Tesfaye Deriba has been competing in international obstacle courses since 2017. In May he finished fifth at the national championships. A month later he ran a time of 8: 13.33 min in a competition in Hengelo, which has since been his best time. In June, he also competed for Ethiopia at the U20 African Championships in Tlemcen, Algeria. He moved into the final, in which he won the silver medal in 8: 33.67 minutes behind his compatriot Takele Nigate . In August he took part in the highlight of the season, the World Championships in London. After a successful run-up he was three seconds faster in the final and finished seventh in 8: 22.12 minutes. In 2018 he took part in competitions, including the Diamond League meeting in Doha, where he stayed below the 8:20 min mark. In 2019 Deriba won the bronze medal at the national championships. In August he took part in the Africa Games in Rabat. He moved into the final, in which he finished ninth. During the entire 2019 season, he did not come close to his previously set times.
