action

At the age of 56, Mita Pantić is still an office assistant in his company. Pantić's wife Persida is a grumpy middle-aged housewife, while his son Branko studies as an astronomy student year after year. The second child is Mira, who has been trying in vain to get a job for years despite completing a law degree. 16-year-old Aca, however, has problems at school and wants a motorcycle. All three children criticize the family's desperate financial situation and hold them responsible for their respective situations. Pantić's eccentric mother and roommate Suzana also live in the household.

Everyday life for Pantić begins at 6 a.m. on this day too. At home he makes his way through the overcrowded bathroom. At work, his boss Srećko Šoić rushes into his office with the request to retype a stack of papers because they are not legible enough. Pantić goes to the company's typing department, where typist Melita Sandić spends more time talking and flirting on the phone than working.

Meanwhile, Pantić's youngest son has problems with his English teacher, who everyone just calls Japanac. Aca has insulted him, and now Japanac wants to speak to his father. Meanwhile, Mita is collecting the monthly paychecks and is horrified to discover that his pay has been deducted from his wages because of his constant delays. Angry, Pantić storms back into his office, where he meets Oliver Nedeljkovic, who wants to bribe him about the new hiring. Although Pantić is short of money, he rejects the offer and reports the attempted bribe to his boss.

Back home, the Pantić family receives a visit from Japanac, who meets the landlord listening to the radio. Pantić is excitedly listening to a football broadcast, previously he had guessed the matches in a sports bet. The longer the transfer takes, the more Pantić's tips prove to be correct. He is only one real tip away from the jackpot. Japanac cannot speak and is about to leave when he meets Suzana. She takes him to her room and the two get along well right away. Pantić faints at this moment - he actually hit the jackpot.

Japanac and Pantić finally meet in Japanac's apartment, where Japanac, however, shows more interest in Pantić's housemaid Suzana than in Pantić's son. Japanac expresses his wish to marry Suzana, which Pantić sees as an opportunity to finally get rid of her. Pantić redeems his betting slip and receives the jackpot of seven million Yugoslav dinars . When Pantić comes back to work, he finds that Melita has been promoted to his boss's personal writing aid. He is even more furious when he learns that Nedeljkovic got the job, although Pantić did not respond to his attempted bribe.

The next morning the daily routine begins again. This time, Pantić doesn't even bother to listen to the nagging and complaints about not having enough money, but instead starts tossing around with banknotes. On the way to the bathroom, he runs into Japanac who informs him that he has married Suzana.
