from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tetris Effect is a puzzle - Video Game of the Japanese game developer Resonair, which initially exclusively for on 9 November 2018 PlayStation 4 has been released. Optionally, the game can also be played with the PlayStation VR . The publisher is Enhance Inc. The chief developer of Tetris Effect is the Japanese Takashi Ishihara, known among other things as the creator of the audiovisual experimental games Rez , Lumines and Child of Eden . The game was licensed from Tetris Corporation. A Windows version of the game was released in July 2019 .

Gameplay

Tetris Effect makes use of the basic game principle of Tetris : The player has to rotate and move the stones falling individually from the upper edge of the playing field in seven geometric variations, called tetrominos, in 90-degree steps so that they are horizontal at the lower edge, if possible Form complete rows. As soon as a row is complete, it disappears. All rows above move down and thus release part of the playing field again. For the simultaneous repayment of several rows, the player receives a higher number of points per row than for a single one. However, compared to the classic from 1989, tetrominos can be put in a queue if they do not match the completion of a row.

The developer Takashi Ishihara added some new game mechanics to the classic. The falling speed of the stones is based on the background music and there is a so-called zone mode. If the player breaks up rows, a zone meter fills up. If this is full, you can switch to zone mode at the push of a button, in which the time is stopped, no new stones fall and the player can solve the puzzle in peace. The game includes an adventure and an effect mode. In adventure mode, new levels are unlocked after a certain number of rows have been cleared, while in the scenarios of effect mode new high scores are to be established.

The audiovisual style, which is reminiscent of the games Rez and Lumines by Takashi Ishihara and “creates a frenzy of lights, colors, sounds and shapes with hypnotic visualizations, animations and sounds”, is striking .

In Tetris Effect there is a hidden stage, which is permanently unlocked after reaching player level 50. The so-called 1989 stage is the original Game Boy version with the original graphics and the associated music from 1989.

"Conclusion:" Tetris' new life as a sensory full-body massage: a festival of colors, sounds and shapes, where everyone should dare to dance. "

"Conclusion:" As is typical for Tetris, the game principle is immediately addictive and the 15 effect modes bring plenty of variation to the game. «“

"Conclusion:" If you like to play Tetris, you will find Tetris Effect a great offshoot for virtual reality. However, those who already couldn't stand the original will not be happy with the new edition either. Despite various specials, Tetris Effect is quite a classic Tetris game, which leaves little to be desired. "
