Teufelsmühle is the name of a log house in the Teufelsgrund , a valley in the Bavarian Vor Spessart in the Aschaffenburg district . It is a hunting lodge southwest of Geiselbach , which found its place in 1909 on the foundation walls of the Middle Mill . Today the log house is misleadingly called the devil's mill.

Three mills

Up until around 1840 there were three mills in the valley, the Obere , the Middle and the Lower Teufelsmühle , which were fed by the Omersbach.

Some say , after which the millers of the Devil said to have appeared, probably contributed to the origin of the name Devil's Mill at.

Upper devil's mill

The Obere Teufelsmühle stood below the confluence of the Omersbach and Falkenbach rivers . During a search excavation in 1985, their foundations were found here. Why the mill disappeared between 1837 and 1847 has not yet been clarified.

Middle devil's mill

The Mittlere Teufelsmühle was on the site of today's log house. It was shut down in 1890 and demolished in 1893.

After the disappearance of the Upper Mill , the Middle Devil's Mill was often erroneously referred to as the Upper Devil's Mill . In addition to the Omersbach, it was also fed by the Geiselbach . For this purpose, a cross connection to the Omersbach was created and the water from both streams was directed to the overshot waterwheel . This mill ditch coming from the Geiselbach no longer exists today, but you can still see its remains in the area. The Obere Mühle was only fed by the Omersbach, which is why it often lacked sufficient headwaters.

Lower devil's mill

The Untere Teufelsmühle was probably sold at the end of the 19th century and released for demolition. It was just before the mouth of the Omersbach and Geiselbach. Like the Mittlere Mühle , it had enough water from the two streams. The Omersbach, which powered all three mills, is also called the Falkenbach on various maps and in documents .
