Operation building of the Teutoburg oil mill

The Teutoburger Ölmühle GmbH is a manufacturer of cold-pressed rapeseed oils . The company's headquarters and production facility are in Ibbenbüren in the Tecklenburger Land ( Steinfurt district ). The Teutoburger Ölmühle is the market leader for cold-pressed rapeseed seed oils.

history

With funds from the BMBF , a project for the processing and pressing of oilseeds was carried out at the University of Essen under the direction of Felix H. Schneider. The aim of the research was to develop a process for peeling rapeseed. The engineers Michael Raß and Christian Schein involved in the project founded the company together with the Kortlüke agricultural trade after the research was completed. The Teutoburger Ölmühle is Germany's first manufacturer of rapeseed seed oils from hulled , cold-pressed rapeseed.

Production process

In the oil mill , conventional seeds from certified contract cultivation in Germany as well as organic seeds according to the EC organic regulation and the guidelines of Bioland , are processed, peeled and cold-pressed. The oil mill is VLOG certified, i. This means that GMO-free seeds are processed. The peeling and cold pressing eliminate the need for refining and chemical treatment of the oils. As part of a circular economy, all by-products from the production of edible oil are processed. For example, rape seed meal is obtained from the press residues as an allergen-free alternative to mustard meal for the food industry, raw materials for organic detergents and renewable energy sources. The press cake goes back to the farmers as animal feed. Due to the high protein content, it is suitable as an environmentally and climate-friendly substitute for the critically classified soy meal from overseas.
