Squidward MacCarthy
Thaddäus MacCarthy (* around 1455, † October 25, 1492 in Ivrea , also Thaddäus Macher ) was an Irish bishop . He was on May 26, 1895 by Pope Leo XIII. beatified . Besides Oliver Plunkett , he is the only Irish man who has been beatified in modern times.
MacCarthy was born in Cork and was the son of the Lord of Muskerry. He was educated in Kilcrea Monastery.
Pope Sixtus IV consecrated him bishop in 1481 and assigned Ross as the new diocese. He could not take over the diocese, however, since the Bishop of Ross was still alive at the time. So he was made bishop of Cork and Cloyne. In Ireland four synods are said to have been convened by him, which met in 1480, 1486 and 1489. Hostility at home forced him to travel to Rome again in 1492, during which he sought confirmation from the Pope as bishop. On the way back he died in Ivrea near Turin .
