Thaddäus Supper (also Judas Thaddäus Josephus Supper ; Czech Tadeáš Supper ; born March 29, 1712 in Müglitz ; † May 1, 1771 in Mährisch Trübau ) was a Baroque painter and fresco artist from Schönhengstgau . He was mainly active in Moravia and Eastern Bohemia.

Life

Squidward Supper was appointed to the clergy by his parents. Therefore he attended the Jesuit grammar school in Olomouc and then studied theology at the Jesuit college there , which he graduated with the academic degree of a baccalaureate .

In Olomouc he met the painters Johann Christoph Handke , Ignaz Raab and Karl Franz Joseph Haringer who were busy decorating the Jesuit church. From around 1729 to 1733 he was an apprentice to Karl Franz Joseph Haringer. In 1736 he married the daughter of the painter Christian David in Mährisch Trübau, with whom Johann Christoph Handke had worked as an assistant until 1715. In 1737 Thaddäus Supper acquired citizenship in Mährisch Trübau, where he later belonged to the city council . From 1738 he was related by marriage to Georg Pacák , who had married the sister of Supper's wife and also settled in Mährisch Trübau.

Thaddäus Supper created numerous altar and other paintings as well as wall and ceiling frescoes. Several of the frescoes are no longer preserved because they were later painted over.

His son Franz Supper, born in 1742, continued the father's workshop. In 1771 he completed the frescoes his father had begun in Mährisch Trübau, and in 1776 he created the high altar painting in Biskupitz .
