Georg F. Patzak (Czech: Jiří F. Pacák * 1670 in Old Rognitz , Hradec Kralove , † 11. August 1742 in Moravian Třebová ) was a Czech sculptor of the Baroque .

Life

Georg F. Patzak, who came from an East Bohemian family of carvers and sculptors , is one of the most important sculptors of the Bohemian Baroque. From 1703 to 1716 he lived in Lusche , where he designed the Mariahilf pilgrimage church and married Marta Chaur (ova) on November 22, 1707. In the same year, with his artistic achievement and diplomatic skill, he succeeded in obtaining not only permission to marry himself and his wife from the Jesuits of the Chlumek residence, but also exemption from serfdom. On December 29, 1713, their son Franz Heinrich was baptized there, who also became a well-known sculptor as Franz Patzak . In 1721 Georg Patzak worked together with Matthias Bernhard Braun in Leitomischl , probably before that in Kukus for Franz Anton von Sporck on the figures of virtues and vices. There he started his own business in 1725. In 1738 he settled in Mährisch Trübau , where he married Anna Maria, the widow of the painter Christian David, in the same year. Her sister was married to Thaddäus Supper since 1736 .

Georg Patzak created his most important works for Politschka , Schurz and Mährisch Trübau , where he assumed a dominant position among the artists. Further works are preserved in Trautenau , Schatzlar , Königinhof , Politschka and Robousy near Jičín . His son Franz Patzak also worked as a sculptor.
