Thaddaios Studites
Thaddaios Studites († November 22 or December 29, 816 ) was a slave and Orthodox monk . He is venerated as a martyr and a saint .
Thaddaios, originally a slave of Bulgarian descent, entered the studio monastery in Constantinople as a slave after his release . The studio monastery was one of the most important monasteries in the Byzantine Empire .
During the iconoclastic persecution under the Byzantine Emperor Leon V (775-820), he was arrested and imprisoned as a resolute representative of image worship with other confreres. Thaddaios did not give in to the demands to deny the image worship and was punished with 130 lashes. He died three days later from his injuries.
