Georgios Fatouros

Georgios Fatouros (Greek Γεώργιος Φατούρος, born March 31, 1927 in Athens ; † April 12, 2018 in Berlin ) was a Greek Byzantine .

Life

Fatouros first studied law (1947–1950), then Greek philology at the University of Athens . After graduating in 1958, he went to the Free University of Berlin in 1959 , where he deepened his studies and in 1963 under Uvo Hölscher as a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . Fatouros has been teaching modern Greek language courses as a lecturer since 1960 . After his doctorate (1963) he was employed as a lecturer . In the course of the university reforms, he was appointed professor in 1971. In 1992 he retired.

Fatouros was a specialist in the Greek literature of late antiquity and the Byzantine period . His main focus was the Middle Greek lexicography and hagiography . Together with Tilman Krischer he published several studies and workbooks on the sophist Libanios .
