Konstantinos A. Dimadis Κωνσταντίνος Α. Δημάδης (* 1940 ) is a Greek Neo- Greekist and professor emeritus for Neo- Greek Studies at the Free University of Berlin .

Life

After studying at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki , Dimadis was from 1964 a research assistant at the 15th Archaeological District of East Macedonia and Thrace, which localized the administrative and religious center of the city of Abdera in Classical times and discovered the city's ancient theater. In the academic year 1967/1968 he worked as a research assistant at the chair for linguistics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (collection and elaboration of material for the lexicon of archaisms in modern Greek dialects ), and from 1968 to 1973 as an editorial member for the Λεξικό της Μεσαιωνικής Εήης ήήης Δημώδους Γραμματείας, 1100–1669 ( Dictionary of Medieval Greek Folk Literature, 1100–1669 ) by Emmanuel Kriaras , from 1973 to 1980 a research assistant at the Institute for Balkan Studies in Thessaloniki . From 1978 to 1980 Dimadis held a teaching assignment for Modern Greek at the Byzantine-Modern Greek Seminar at the Free University of Berlin. This was followed by a lectureship at the Byzantine-Modern Greek seminar at the University of Amsterdam from 1980 to 1992 , where he received his doctorate in 1990 with a thesis on liberal writers during the dictatorship of Metaxas and the occupation (1936-1944) .

In 1992 Dimadis was appointed Professor of Middle and Modern Greek Language and Literature at the University of Groningen as the successor to Willem J. Aerts , and from 1996 until his retirement in 2007 he was Professor of Modern Greek Studies at the Free University of Berlin. Since 2001 he has also been an honorary professor at the Institute for Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies and Neo-Greek Studies at the State University of Tbilisi , Georgia .

Dimadis is chairman of the European Society for Neo-Greek Studies .

In 2010 Dimadis received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bucharest .

Focus of work

Dimadis' works are characterized by their diversity: the spectrum ranges from archaeological works, for example on ancient theater history , through modern Greek lexicography and Balkanology to dealing with modern modern Greek literature , especially prose from the 19th and 20th centuries, including editions - and reception problems , and from a literary sociological perspective with the interferences between literature and contemporary history , especially dictatorial regimes.
