Miltos Pechlivanos

Miltos Pechlivanos ( Greek Μίλτος Πεχλιβάνος ; * 1965 ) is a Greek neo-Greekist , literary scholar and professor of neo- Greek studies at the Free University of Berlin .

Life

Pechlivanos studied Classical Philology and Modern Greek Philology and Linguistics at the University of Thessaloniki from 1983 to 1988 with Panagiotis Moullas, among others, and then took part in the Graduate School Theory of Literature and Communication at the University of Konstanz as a scholarship holder of the DAAD and the DFG until 1994 . After freelance work, he worked from 1995 to 1999 as a research assistant at the Academy of Dramatic Arts of the State Theater of Northern Greece. In January 1999 he finished with a dissertation on the subject Discourses of modernity - ancient and modern in the period before the Greek nation-state , doctorate in Thessaloniki. In the same year he was appointed university lecturer for general and comparative literature at the Institute for Byzantine and Neo-Greek Studies at the University of Thessaloniki. In the 2003/04 winter semester he took over the position of professor for Neo- Greek Studies at the University of Munich , and in October 2007 he was appointed Professor of Neo-Greek Studies at the Institute for Greek and Latin Philology at the Free University of Berlin.

Research priorities

Pechlivanos works both linguistically on the modern Greek language system and its history as well as on the modern Greek cultural and literary history in its relationship to the ancient and Byzantine tradition as well as to modern European national literature . His research is focused on literary studies and literary theory as well as comparative studies. Further topics are the German-Greek cultural transfer and the history of books and reading.

In addition, Pechlivanos has also translated works by German humanities scholars such as Hans Robert Jauß , Manfred Fuhrmann , and Paul Zanker into modern Greek on various occasions .
