Thaicom 2 is a Thai television satellite of the Thaicom series and Shin Satellite Public Company Limited , founded in 1991 , a subsidiary of the Shin Corporation based in Thailand . The Shin Satellite Public Company Limited is now called Thaicom Public Company Limited . The Thaicom 2 satellite was co-positioned with Thaicom 5 at 78.5 ° East and was replaced by Thaicom 6 .
Thaicom 2 was launched in 1994 from the Kourou spaceport on board an Ariane rocket . It has been out of service since October 2010.
