Prize money
Both Channel 7 and Pepsi Cola appeared as sponsors of the tournament , although there was still no prize money for the players.
Tournament course
As was common in most of the Asian invitation tournaments of the time, in addition to four world class professional snooker players - in this case, Steve Davis and Tony Meo , Terry Griffiths and Doug Mountjoy , two Englishmen and two Welsh - also several local amateur players were invited to the tournament, whereby this in this case the two Thais were Vichien Saengtong and A. Tanyuthitham . Both competed in a first round against a professional player, with the winners of the respective games in the semi-finals against one of the other professional players. The winner of the tournament was then determined in the final. All games in the tournament were played in the best of 3 frames mode .

final
The Englishman Tony Meo had to start the tournament in the first round and had clearly survived this with a white wash over A. Tanyuthitham . As a result, he had defeated former Welsh world champion Terry Griffiths 2-1 in the semifinals and thus secured a place in the final. In this he met the reigning world champion Steve Davis on a close friend who, thanks to his dominant position in snooker in the 1980s, could only start in the semifinals and there with 2: 1 over Griffiths' compatriot Doug Mountjoy and Meo only in the Decider had reached the finals. However, there are no exact frame results from the final itself, but the same game went into the decider that Tony Meo won with a 2-1 victory.
