That Lucky Old Sun (A Narrative) -

That Lucky Old Sun (A Narrative) is a concept album by Brian Wilson , which premiered on September 10, 2007 in London at the Royal Festival Hall . Five more concerts followed, also in London, and he also performed with a band in Manchester. Similar to his Smile tour, the band was also supported this time by Stockholm Strings And Horns .

The album was released on CD and vinyl on August 29, 2008 by Capitol Records.

That Lucky Old Sun

The work consists of normal songs as well as spoken passages, which are musically supported. The compositions are by Brian Wilson and his bandmate Scott Bennett. The narratives that interrupt the music were written by Van Dyke Parks .

Wilson wants to return to its origins with this work - to Capitol Records where The Beach Boys had their most successful period in the 1960s . The album was released on CD, DVD and vinyl.

"That Lucky Old Sun" reached # 21 on the Billboard album charts and # 37 in England.

The album as a live performance

In September 2007, Lucky Old Sun was premiered as part of the reopening of the Royal Festival Hall. To provide a better background for the music, a stage show was designed, which shows pictures from earlier days of Beach Boys history on a canvas.

In January 2008, Brian Wilson and his band presented the suite in Australia. The reviews have been consistently positive.

criticism

In the English media, the premiere of the work was received very positively, almost exuberantly, and in initial reactions it was put on a par with his works Pet Sounds and Smile (see Brian Wilson presents Smile ).
