Thayaht (real name Ernesto Michahelles ; born August 21, 1893 in Florence , † April 29, 1959 in Pietrasanta ) was an Italian painter and sculptor.

Life

Michahelles moved to Paris in 1918 , where he studied painting at the Académie Ranson and got to know the Madeleine Vionnet fashion house on Rue de Rivoli, for which he designed a logo . In 1919 he designed the futuristic piece of clothing TuTa , which he made famous with the help of his brother RAM ( Ruggero Alfredo Michahelles ). During this time Ernesto changed his name to the palindromic pseudonym Tayat (later .THAYAHT. ). After a solo exhibition in Florence, Thayaht went to study in the USA ( Harvard ) in 1920 .

In 1923 and 1927 he took part in the "Esposizione Internazionale d'Arti Decorative" in Monza , in 1930 in the International Exhibition in Barcelona and in 1931 in the first Quadriennale di Roma . Together with his friend, painter Antonio Marasco (1896–1975), he organized an exhibition of futuristic art in Florence. In 1932, 1934 and 1936 he took part in the Venice Biennale .

The neoclassical American sculptor Hiram Powers was his great-grandfather.
