The Amphitheater (English The Amphitheater ) is a bowl-shaped depression in the west Antarctic Grahamland . With a diameter of 1.2 km, it lies on the south side of the head end of the Northeast Glacier .
The bases of the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) and the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) were on this depression. The service mapped them on a sleigh excursion through Graham Land, across the Northeast Glacier and Bill's Gulch . The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey gave the depression a descriptive name in the course of a survey in 1946, as the shape is reminiscent of an ancient amphitheater.
