The Angina Pectoris is a German rock band from Stuttgart .

history

The band emerged in 1990 from the synth-pop- oriented project “Feu Ma Mere”, which was founded by musicians Joelen Mingi and Alexander Klaffke in the second half of the 1980s. Shortly thereafter, Shay Astray, Mingi's longtime partner, joined the band. In 1990 the first record deal was signed with KM-Music / Semaphone.

The band performed with bands like Arts & Decay and The Fair Sex in the early 1990s . In 1991 the first single was released with Odium . In the same year the piece Disconsolate on Zillo's German Mystic Sound Sampler Volume II made the band known to a wider audience. The Agony After , on the other hand , which appeared on Zillo’s first Romantic Sound Sampler in the fall of 1991 , is an incorrect attribution. In fact, the title comes from the (only) Feu Ma Mere album Seasons of Mornful (1989). Nevertheless, he is still considered one of the most famous of the band to this day.

Before the debut album Anno Domini was released in 1992 and the band went on a promotional tour, Sin Feissali (guitar) became a permanent member of the band. Feissali had already toured Germany with The Angina Pectoris in 1991. With On the Burning Funeral Pyre a mini album was released in 1993, which is also the last one to be released by KM-Music / Semaphone. A contract was then signed with SPV GmbH . The '93 tour was also the band's most successful, with several "headline" appearances at various festivals. In the same year, however, the band left Sin Feissali to found their own group, as well as "Erzulie" - the drum computer. The guitar part was performed by Anthony Abzu, the band's live technician, the drums were manned by the Irishman Martyn Lynch.

In 1994, the first and last album, Anguish, was released by SPV and the band went on tour, which was abroad for the first time. A new contract was signed with the legendary Hamburg record label AMV / Public Propaganda. Martyn Lynch left the band in 1995 due to musical differences and was replaced by Mingi's longtime friend Cliff Hill, ex-member of the American band Shock Therapy . In 1996 The Angina Pectoris went on a major tour of Germany again to promote the new album Insomnia . After this tour, however, the longstanding relationship between Joelen Mingi and Shay Astray broke up. As a consequence, Astray not only quit her job, but also completely withdrew from the music business. The band was then restructured and creatively realigned by Mingi.

The band's lineup has been expanded to create more powerful music. Antony Abzu gave up the guitar part and took over the technical direction. From 1997 the band stopped appearing in public and worked on a new album in isolation.

With Dying Heart , an unofficial CD single was released in 1999, which only selected fans got. The first appearance in two years took place as the "headliner" of a festival in the Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg . In January 2000, the CD single Mandy from the new album Lakshmi was released. Five months later the world tour started, which led through Europe and Asia and was supported by various sponsors, such as B. Channel-V TV , Channel 4 , Hammer Magazine , Gothic Magazine , NewsZine , Oblivion , Powermetal.de . In 2001 the Lakshmi album was released and the second part of the world tour was undertaken, which ended on December 15th in Germany.
