properties

Unicode

Since version 6.0.0, which was only available as a pre-release version, The Bat! completely unicode compatible. A large part of the program was rewritten for this purpose.

Supported protocols / security

It supports IMAP and POP3 , their SSL variants with secure authentication via APOP , CRAM - HMAC , NTLM and CompuServe RPA and SMTP includes secure connection via STARTTLS , SSL3 is for The Bat! 6.1 supported. Mail functions of Microsoft Exchange Server can also be accessed via MAPI . GnuPG and PGP can be integrated and extracted from The Bat! be addressed out. S / MIME is supported directly. The Pro version encrypts and automatically backs up the mail databases if necessary. HTML mail can be displayed if desired, but no active content is executed. The Bat! does not reload images, style sheets or script files. When saving / opening potentially dangerous files, the program warns the user. It can be expanded using plug-ins . The programming interface is also open to external developers.

The Bat! can be extended to an RSS reader and virus scanner integrated.

Multiple user accounts

The Bat! supports any number of user accounts, each of which can be assigned different identities and templates. This means that each user account has its own folder such as inbox and outbox. These are not stored in a central folder, but can be displayed together via the virtual folder .

Filter functions

Complex nested filters are supported. All properties of a mail can be specified as a criterion. If a filter hits, actions such as moving, marking, coloring, starting external programs, exporting, forwarding, address book operations, playing sounds and others can be carried out. Selective filters only read the header of an email on the server and, if necessary, delete the email without downloading it first. Various freely available plug-ins can be used as spam filters . Virtual folders can be created with numerous filter criteria and show mails from different physical folders.

templates

Very flexible templates can be assigned to new messages, replies and messages to be forwarded, for example to create automated salutations, signatures , introductory lines or cookies. However, these cookies have nothing to do with the HTTP cookies from websites, but are templates that can be used to automatically integrate texts from external text files into emails. There are also numerous predefined variables . Templates can be defined per account, folder, address book group and sender. Together with the filter functions, the mail communication can be automated to a large extent. The serial letter function can be used to create personalized newsletters. Quick templates enable you to quickly insert text modules with shortcuts and to reuse text modules in different templates.

Spell check

The spell checker checks texts as you type. Unknown words can be added. Foreign dictionaries, for example from OpenOffice.org, can be imported.

Toolbars

Toolbars can be adapted as required, for example to show functions that are often used as symbols or to limit the interface to the necessary symbols. Shortcuts can also be customized.

calendar

The Bat! has a calendar with a resubmission function and a notebook.

design

The appearance of the surface can be adapted using various designs. This influences the colors and patterns of the various surface elements.

Address management

Several address books, each with several address groups, can be managed. An address can be a member of several groups. Each address has numerous fields; including multiple e-mail addresses, private and business postal address, date of birth (with optional notification), e-mail template, code page to be used, picture, OpenPGP keys and S / MIME certificates. CardDAV has been supported since version 7.0 .
