The Battle of Olympus ( Jap. オリュンポスの戦い愛の伝説, Oryunposu no Tatakai: Ai no Densetsu , dt "Battle of Olympus: Legend of Love.") Has been developed by Infinity video game from the action-adventure genre of the Nintendo Entertainment system .

It was released in Japan on March 28, 1988 . The game was launched in North America in January 1990, and the game was also available in Europe from September 26, 1991. In 1993 a Game Boy version was also launched.

action

The action takes place in ancient Greece . Orpheus, the hero of the game, tries to save his great love Helene. She was killed by a snake bite. Orpheus makes his way to the underworld to save her. He learns that Hades , the god of the underworld, let Helene die in order to make her a wife. After taking note of it, Orpheus sets out to save Helene.

Gameplay

During the game, Orpheus meets numerous gods of ancient Greek mythology and tries to win their favor. First he meets Zeus , who encourages the other gods to support him. He receives from them, among other things, a weapon, protective shield and other equipment. As the game progresses, he gets better and better equipment. Orpheus starts with a wooden club as a weapon, later he receives a “divine sword” and a “ nymph sword”. For example, he receives a harp as a piece of equipment, with the help of which he can travel long distances. In the course of the game Orpheus meets many other mythological creatures, including a Taurus , Lamia , a Cyclops , a Centaur , Talos , Minotaur , Cerberus and a siren . The objects also contain numerous allusions to Greek mythology such as B. the harp of Apollo , the sword of Hephaestus , the staff of Prometheus and the sandals of Hermes .

Trivia

In the European version, the characters are called Orpheus and Helene, although the story is obviously based on the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice . Some elements of the game are also based on the stories of Heracles and Perseus . After Zelda II: The Adventure of Link had great success in the 1980s, numerous imitators came onto the market.
