The Castle ( German  Castle ) is the seat of the legislature , the Legislative Council and the Executive ( English Executive Council ) of the island of St. Helena and the entire British overseas territory Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha .

The Castle was originally the residence of the Governor of St. Helena , who now lives in the Plantation House .

The building, which was partially built in 1659 and completely renovated in 1860, is located in the capital Jamestown on Grande Parade . Historically, it was part of the East India Company fortifications . Parts of the current building complex are also the headquarters of the police, a library and the supreme court as well as a public park ( Castle Gardens ).

The building enjoys listed in the highest protection level Grade I .
