Best quartet
The Bester Quartet is a Polish klezmer band that was founded in 1997 under the name The Cracow Klezmer Band in Krakow by young musicians around the composer and accordionist Jarosław Bester . Her style is influenced by the influences of jazz , classical and experimental avant-garde music.
Career
The band was founded in 1997 in Krakow as The Cracow Klezmer Band by young musicians and has since performed in the most important concert halls and clubs around the world (Europe, USA, Canada, Taiwan). Over the years numerous radio and television recordings have been made and the group has worked with music greats such as Tomasz Stańko and John Zorn . The musicians have a collaboration with the New York record label Tzadik that has resulted in seven CD recordings so far.
Since January 1st 2007 the band has been performing under the name Bester Quartet . The reason for changing the name, according to the band itself, was the desire to be less associated with traditional klezmer music:
“The daring decision to change the band's name into Bester Quartet was taken to avoid explaining that what they do is combine Jewish traditions with classical music, jazz and avant-garde, and that improvisation serves as a foundation on which to build complex, sometimes extremely intricate, musical forms.
