The Crying Spell is an American synth rock band that was formed in 2006 by singer Len Hotrum, guitarist Eric Snyder, drummer Chase Culp and bassist Johnny Bacolas in Seattle , Washington . The band itself calls their modern New Wave music style " Modwave ".

history

Hotrum and Culp used to play in a band called Point One , Snyder and Bacolas in Second Coming . After the line-up was completed by second guitarist Dane Brooks, The Crying Spell released their debut album Through Hell to Heaven, which was heavily influenced by the 1980s, in July 2008 and was available through their website, iTunes and Amazon . They also played their first concert in the same year. A year later, Bacolas left The Crying Spell to pursue other activities and was then replaced by Jason Phraner.

In early 2012 the band released their second album Disgraceland , but this was only sold during the two-month European tour as the opening act for the British post-punk band Killing Joke . Shortly after the release, keyboardist Kevin Preston (also a member of Endless Sunder) was accepted into the band. In October 2012 The Crying Spell played in the opening act of the Californian electronic rock band Julien-K (which was founded by two former members of the industrial rock band Orgy ) on their Germany tour.

In 2013, bassist Jason Phraner left the band, which was then finishing work on their latest album, entitled Spectrums of Light . According to the band, the album will have a stronger 80s New Wave vibe.
