The Dakotas is an American western series that was produced in 1963.
action
The story focuses on the adventures of United States Marshal Frank Ragan and his Deputies J.D. Smith , Del Stark, and Vance Porter in the Dakota Territory in the Gilded Age . The four of them take on outlaws . Former gunslinger JD Smith was hired in the pilot to kill the marshal. However, he then takes his side and becomes his deputy. In a later episode, he gets into a conflict of conscience when the members of his former gang visit him and he is supposed to join them.

The Dakotas was a spin-off from Cheyenne . The series was canceled after the 19th episode aired after violent audience protests. In the episode there was a gunfight in a church in which a priest was injured. The last episode that had already been filmed was then no longer broadcast.
Guest stars included Lee Van Cleef , Dennis Hopper , Victor French , Richard Jaeckel , Strother Martin , DeForest Kelley and Telly Savalas .
