Larry Ward (born October 3, 1924 in Columbus , Ohio - † February 16, 1985 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Ward began his career in the mid-1950s in the soap opera The Brighter Day , but could not achieve any other film and television roles in the following years. It wasn't until 1962 that his career took off when he made guest appearances on a number of Warner Bros. television series. After appearing as United States Marshal Frank Ragan in Cheyenne , he got the lead role in the spin-off The Dakotas . The western series about the adventures of the marshal and his deputies was discontinued after the first season. Ward played a few guest roles on various series for the rest of the 1960s, but his television appearances became rarer.

Much like Clint Eastwood , who after his television career went to Italy with a thousand miles of dust and became a star there under Sergio Leone , Ward also tried his luck in spaghetti westerns . He played leading roles in The Shreds Die and in A Treasure You Don't Steal At Ingeborg Schöner's side , but these were not particularly successful commercially. Back in Hollywood he got a nameless supporting role in the western classic Man Called Him Hombre with Paul Newman , but a film career in the United States was not granted to him. He finally played in two Italian crime films and a B-movie - horror film - shot in the Philippines .
