The Dark Element is a Swedish-Finnish symphonic metal band. The founders of the band are singer Anette Olzon (ex- Nightwish ) and Jani Liimatainen (ex- Sonata Arctica ).
Band history
After her split with Nightwish, Anette Olzon tried her hand at first as a pop singer and released the solo album Shine . Jani Liimatainen and Sonata Arctica went their separate ways since 2007. Liimatainen then founded Cain's Offering . The record company Frontiers Music made Liimatainen an offer for a new album. Since he always liked Olzon's voice very much, he asked her to start a joint project. Then there were Jonas Kuhlberg (bass) and Jani Hurula (drums). Her debut album The Dark Element was released in November 2017 . Niilo Sevänen from Insomnium took part as a guest singer in the piece Dead to Me .
On November 8, 2019, the second album Songs the Night Sings was finally released , again via Frontiers Music. After Hurula left the band, Rolf Pilve from Stratovarius is now the drummer.
Music genre
Musically, the group leans heavily on Nightwish. It's melodic symphonic metal, the second album being a bit heavier than the first.
