occupation

Devil Inside (Original title: The Devil Inside) is an American horror film from 2012. Directed by William Brent Bell, who also wrote the script with Matthew Peterman. The film, which is held in the style of a documentary from found footage (" found footage "), was produced by Matthew Peterman and Morris Paulson and shows Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth and Suzan Crowley in the lead roles. It opened in American cinemas on January 6, 2012 and in German cinemas on March 1, 2012.

The film, which had not been shown to the press in advance, briefly reached the top position at the box office in America, but received mostly negative reviews and soon disappeared from the charts.

action

Devil Inside shows a woman falling into a series of exorcisms while trying to figure out what happened to her mother. She had murdered three people 20 years earlier, apparently under the influence of a demon.

background

The feature film was shot in 2010 in various locations including Bucharest (Romania), Rome (Italy) and Vatican City . The film had a budget of about $ 1 million; it was the first release by Paramount Insurge , a new low budget subsidiary of Paramount .

reception

The film received extremely poor reviews from both professional film critics and audiences. Currently (January 14, 2014) Rotten Tomatoes has a 6 percent rating in 80 reviews. CinemaScore, a spectator reactions-be captured market research company in Las Vegas, gave the film an F .

The film led the box office box office grossing $ 33 million on the opening weekend after New Year 2012 . This can be attributed to the lack of press previews, which prevented the later mainly negative reviews before the cinema release. On the second weekend, income dropped significantly; the film was no longer in the box office top ten on the third weekend after its US premiere. At the end of March 2012, the film had grossed around US $ 100 million worldwide, which is about a hundred times the production costs.

In Germany, negative reviews also dominated. The story told has been labeled a 'copy' and 'stolen', which could not add anything new to other films like The Exorcist . Perlentaucher judged: "'The Devil Inside' is a particularly bad ['found footage' horror film]", which "is characterized by a lack of care and a complete lack of interest in its own characters." Moviereporter.de is also disappointed: " As a horror film, 'The Devil inside' takes every mistake that can be made in the found footage segment. ”Matthias Wannhoff wrote on schnitt.de about the film:“ A downright bold uninspired title, the avoidance of any innovation as much as possible a renunciation of the introduction of characters and finally, you read it in every second review, an outrageously abrupt ending - if it were only possible according to formal criteria, William Brent Bell's horror snap shot would be out of the question and certainly not worth the holy water that comes with was allegedly buried during the shooting.
