The Diplomat is an online international news magazine covering political, social and cultural issues in the Asia-Pacific region. The editorial office is based in Tokyo , Japan.
history
The original Australian magazine, which was printed every two months, was founded by Minh Bui Jones, David Llewellyn-Smith and Sung Lee in 2001. The first issue appeared in April 2002.
James Pach acquired the magazine in December 2007 through his company Trans-Asia Inc. Due to the continued failures of the print edition, the magazine was only offered online from August 2009 onwards. The editorial office was moved from Sydney to Tokyo. Shannon Tiezzi is currently (July 2018) Editor-in-Chief, Catherine Putz Managing Editor, Franz-Stefan Gady, Ankit Panda and Prashanth Parameswaran are Senior Editors.
The Diplomat has published interviews with many prominent figures in public life such as Ali Allawi , Anwar Ibrahim , Ian Macfarlane, Brent Scowcroft , Mike Moore , Jason Yuan, Kim Beazley , Wegger Christian Strømmen, Shankar Prasad Sharma and Jaliya Wickramasuriya.
