The Dome (formerly Swakopmund Indoor Sport Center ) is a multifunctional arena for sporting and cultural events in Swakopmund , on the Namibian coast . It opened on August 1, 2014. The arena was one of only two arenas of its kind in Southern Africa when it opened . It is currently (as of April 2018) the third largest of its kind in Southern Africa, after the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg and the Durban ICC Arena in Durban .

The total construction costs amounted to more than 100 million Namibian dollars . At the start of planning in April 2012, total costs of 85 million Namibian dollars were expected.

The arena focuses on sport and can support up to 40 different sports through its structure. The total area of ​​the arena with ancillary rooms is more than 7,000 square meters and is covered by a tarpaulin roof with an area of ​​11,400 square meters. The facility includes the main arena with an area of ​​6200 square meters, side rooms, doctor's offices, gym, health center, meeting and conference rooms, shops and swimming pool.

Events

The first events in December 2013 were various concerts by South African and Namibian artists. These included Elvis Blue , Theuns Jordaan , Ray Dylan and Kurt Darren .

The arena is home to the Coastal Pirates ( inline hockey ).
