The Dream Weavers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dream Weavers were an American pop music duo that was popular in the 1950s.

Gene Adkinson and Wade Buff went to different high schools , but were both members of The Greater Miami Boys' Drum and Bugle Corps , a 100-strong corps . They became friends and composed some songs together while they were still in school.

Then they studied together at the University of Florida at Gainesville , where they won a talent competition of 5,000 students. As a result, in 1955 they were allowed to play the half-hour show “Starlight Serenade with Gene and Wade” with pianist Lee Turner and bassist Eddie Newsom twice a week on the university's own radio station WURF . The show ended at 10:30 am, and at the end Gene and Wade were each allowed to play the song "It's Almost Tomorrow" . The music for this was composed by Gene Adkinson, with Wade Buff providing the lyrics.

The host of the show, Chuck Murdock , started a competition to find a suitable group name for the two. The winner of this competition argued, "... that those who wrote the song are creators (" weavers ") of dreams." - The band name The Dream Weavers was found.

"It's Almost Tomorrow" was recorded as a single in Jacksonville . The song then ran continuously on local Miami radio . This in turn prompted the Decca Records record company to re- record the piece with improved quality. This version reached the top 10 in the USA in 1956 and even number 1 on the British charts. Wade Buff acted as lead vocalist on the recording , and the third voice was sung by alternate female interpreters ( Sally Sanborn , Mary Carr , Mary Rude, etc.)

The Dream Weavers released half a dozen singles in 1955 and 1956, including "You're Mine , " "Into the Night , " "A Little Love Can Go a Long Way," and "Give Us This Day," and were among Decca's top Artists. You have also been a regular on the Ed Sullivan Show or Perry Como's regular television show.

In March 1956, Buff married Mary Rude. After their honeymoon, they actually wanted to put the group together for a tour, but then decided that such a long tour and life on the street wouldn't be so good for married life. Wade Buff cleared his place on the Dream Weavers for Lee Raymond. But then Gene Adkinson was drafted into the army and the group ended its existence.

The song "It's Almost Tomorrow" was listed seven times in a survey by the American music magazine Billboard "Billboard's Hottest Hot 100 Hits" ("The 3000 biggest hit singles from 1955 to today"), including at number 87 in the overall list 46th place in the “Top 100 of the 1950s” , 17th place in the “Top 100 of 1956” , 5th place in “Decca's Top 50” and 13th place in the “debut singles that reached the Top 100” .
