The Dung ( Vietnamese : Thế Dṻng ; born June 9, 1954 in Tuyen Quang , Vietnam ) is a Berlin- based poet, literary critic and novelist . He is also the manager of a system restaurateur .

Life

He was a soldier in the Vietnamese Army from 1971 to 1976 in the war against America . During this time, he published lyric works in 1974. From 1976 to 1980 he studied Vietnamistics and literature in Hanoi . 1980 to 1983 he was a teacher at the high school in Vietnam. Since 1980 he has published critical essays under the pseudonym Dung Van. From 1984 to 1989 he was editor of the magazine Literatur und Kunst , 1985 delegate of the Young Writers' Congress in Hanoi. In 1989 he moved to Berlin, where he received a work contract from the Berlin Artists' Fund in 1993 and has been employed by Kultur ist Plural eV since 1994 .

The Dung is a member of the Hai Hung Literature and Art Association, the Vietnamese Writers Abroad Center, and was chairman of the Eastern Europe section of the Vietnamese PEN Center Abroad from 1996 to 1998. The Dung is also a member of the PEN Center Germany .

Awards

In 1985 he received the Hai Hung Cultural Office Prize, in 1986 the CON SON Prize for Poetry from the Hai Hung Literature and Art Association and in 1991 the CON SON Prize for Literary Research.
