The Farmer Boys , consisting of Bobby Adamson (born September 20, 1933 ) and Woody Murray (born September 11, 1933 ), was an American country and rockabilly duo who started their career with country music in the 1950s and later made a significant contribution to the creation of the Bakersfield Sound .

Career

Beginnings

The duo came together in 1952 when they performed together at parties and in bars. After an appearance in the Happy-Go-Lucky Club , Herb Henson invited them to his nightly radio show on KERO. After a short while, they were regulars on the show. This is where they got their name; Henson called them the Farmer Boys because Adamson and Murray are from Farmersville , California . After an unsuccessful audition with MGM Records, they got a record deal with Capitol Records . They held their first session on January 12, 1955.

successes

Their first titles You're A Humdinger and Onions, Onions were stylistically based on the comedy titles of the comedy duo Homer and Jethro , but they had far more success with their pure country title Flip Flop , which gave them the opportunity to play with then stars like Webb Pierce , Hank Locklin , Carl Smith and Elvis Presley play together. They also appeared on the Grand Ole Opry , America's most successful and well-known radio show. In 1956, influenced by Elvis and the rock'n'roll wave, the Farmer Boys turned to rockabilly. Her two titles Cool Down Mame and My Baby Done Left Me are considered classics today. However, after their successful foray into rockabilly music, they returned to country music. In their last session for Capitol in 1957, they were joined by the Desert Stars , a band that Merle Haggard and Buck Owens had as members. The Farmer Boys had played together with Haggard as their guitarist before. These were their last recordings, but the duo continued to perform until 1964.
