The Fiend is a British hardcore band from Hebburn .

history

The Fiend was founded in 1982 as one of the first hardcore bands in North East England. Guitarist Robinson had previously played in the punk band Public Toys, the other founding members in another punk band, the Degenerates. In 1987, the band broke up because there was no permanent line-up due to frequent changes of drummers. A reunion also seemed ruled out due to the illness-related death of Robertson's brother Rob, but in 2007 Robertson put together a new line-up due to insistence from friends. In 2014 the band signed a contract for three albums with the London label Candlelight Records .

After The Fiend broke up, Robert Hunter played with the Lurkers , the Robertson brothers with Blitzkrieg .

style

The oldest local newspaper in Great Britain, the Shields Gazette , compared The Fiend with classic UK hardcore bands such as GBH or Discharge . The online magazine Ave Noctum locates the band in the range between Hardcore and Thrash Metal , draws parallels to New York Hardcore bands and judges the album Greed Power Religion War that it "shovels tons of razor-sharp guitar riffs over a rhythm barrage" mean, aggressive and pissed off by everyone and everything ”. Rock'n'Reel Reviews judged the album to contain " Slayer- inspired hardcore played at 100 mph." The music producer Ian Glasper judged the compilation album Complete Recordings 83-87 , it was a "must buy for all fans of rough hardcore".
