The Firebirds is a rock 'n' roll band from Leipzig . It consists of five musicians who cover songs from the 1950s and 1960s and reinterpret them.
history
In 1985 Guido Gentzel and Alexander Teich met for the first time.
In May 1992 Alexander Teich, Guido Gentzel, Konrad Schöpe and Simon Fickenscher founded the band as teenagers in their school (Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Leipzig-Möckern). There they rehearsed for three years for their first appearances, which mostly took place in small restaurants or at private celebrations. The first appearance of the school band took place in June 1992 as part of the school music project week.
In 1996 they started to write their own songs. In the same year they won the "Band Überfall Dresden" under the name "Barbie Q". As a prize, they were given the opportunity to create the first professional studio session. In 2000 they released their first album Great Birds of Fire . The recordings that they made with producer Tobias Künzel in 2001 have not yet been released in 2012.
In 2002 over 6500 people came to their concert on the occasion of their 10th band anniversary in Exhibition Hall 7 in Leipzig. The Firebirds now play around 150 concerts a year across Germany and have produced six albums and two singles. In 2003 they appeared as a studio band in MDR for the series "Ein Kessel DDR", their first television production. In 2004 they appeared as Saxon representatives at the Olympic Games in Athens. In 2005 they received the Leipzig Culture Prize, the "Golden Rose". In 2007 the band was able to sign Chuck Berry for two concerts in Germany (Color Line Arena Hamburg and Arena Leipzig) and in the same year went on a four-week European tour with " Bill Haley 's Original Comets".
On November 17th, 2012 they celebrated their 20th anniversary as a band. Also present were Wanda Jackson , Gus Backus , "Bill Haley's Original Comets" and the former band members. Since 2012, they have organized the Firebirds Festival at Trebsen Castle every year .
In addition to their live concerts, The Firebirds played in the revue show "Lollipop" in the Prinzregententheater Munich, in a musical comedy for the band's 20th anniversary (Rock'n'Roll High School), and every year in a new dinner show in Dresden (Mafia Mia ), since 2016 in the comedy revue “Great Cinema” at Comödie Dresden and go on tour through Germany with their Firebirds Burlesque Show, which is newly produced every year.
