The builder and owner is Klaus-Michael Kühne . It is located in Hamburg-Rotherbaum on the Fontenay street on the Outer Alster and has 130 guest rooms and suites, some with a view of the Alster. The organic architecture was designed by the architect Jan Störmer . The foyer , the atrium lounge , has a clear ceiling height of 27 meters.

The artistic ambience created u. a. the artist Antonio Máro , who created a picture for each room and each hallway.

history

The hotel is named after the ship broker John Fontenay , who in 1816 bought a large piece of land between Mittelweg and the Outer Alster . a. also The Fontenay in Hamburg located. The building stands on the site of the earlier Hotel InterContinental , also called InterConti . It had to close in February 2013 due to bankruptcy. In March 2013 it became known that Klaus-Michael Kühne had acquired the hotel for around 20 million euros; he had it demolished at the end of February 2014.

The foundation stone for The Fontenay Hamburg was laid on August 14, 2014. The hotel was originally planned to open in summer 2016. In November 2015 the topping-out ceremony was celebrated and it was made public that there will be delays. Due to water damage in the summer of 2017, the date was postponed several times. The Fontenay officially opened on March 19, 2018.
