building
The restaurant is located in a building that has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978 , which is also the name of the building. The building was built around 1900 by the Scottish immigrant Alexander Gus Clark, who orientated himself on the craft traditions of his country of origin and used the local building materials. However, the style of the building is shaped by the origins of the first owner, Peter (Pierre) Guillaume, who came from the Spanish Pyrenees . Originally the building served as a saloon . The Eagle Saloon was bought in 1907 by a relative of Guillaume's. John B. Lande from the French Pyrenees was actually a butcher, but bought the inventory of a steam laundry in Yountville and, together with his wife, set up a steam laundry on the ground floor of the former saloon. The family lived on the first floor of the building. In 1936 the family sold the house, which then became a residential building that often changed hands.
The restaurant building is located directly on Washington Street. On the opposite side, between Washington Street and St Helena Highway, is the restaurant's kitchen and flower garden.

In 2002, it was listed as the third best restaurant on The World's 50 Best Restaurants . In 2003 and 2004 it topped the list. In 2007 the restaurant was awarded three stars by the Michelin Guide , which it has held ever since.
