Thomas Keller (born October 14, 1955 in Camp Pendleton ) is an American chef , restaurateur and cookbook author .

Career

He learned to cook at a Palm Beach restaurant that was run by his mother. In 1983 he moved to France and worked there in various starred restaurants such as Guy Savoy and Taillevent . Three years later he opened his first restaurant, the Rakel, in New York City and then worked as a hotel manager in Los Angeles .

In 1994 he opened The French Laundry restaurant in Yountville , Napa Valley . He has received several awards from the James Beard Foundation such as "Best California Chef" (1996) and "Best Chef in America" ​​(1997). In 2005, his restaurant received a three-star rating per se in the first Michelin Guide for New York City; 2006 also followed three stars for the French Laundry in the first edition of the Guide Michelin for the Bay Area . In 2006 Thomas Keller also received the " Eckart Witzigmann Prize for great culinary art".
