TheFutureEmbrace is the first studio album by Billy Corgan , founders of Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan . The album was released on June 21, 2005, the album's only single was Walking Shade .
background
After Zwan's dissolution in September 2003, Corgan announced that in future he would only be active as a solo artist. In 2004 he published a volume of poetry called Blinking with Fists and began work on his debut album, with the support of producers Bjorn Thorsrud and Bon Harris ( Nitzer Ebb ). Corgan described the work on the album as similar to that with the Smashing Pumpkins, as he had done practically everything in the studio alone in the past. As a guest musician you can hear Robert Smith of The Cure in To Love Somebody , a cover version of the Bee Gees . Smith, who also contributed some guitar tracks to the song, thought Corgan was crazy at first when he asked him if he would be involved, but the musicians were satisfied with the result. The album title The Future Embrace (dt .: The future embrace for Corgan, "that the day will be worth it believe in it") means faith in the present because he.
Reviews
The album received mixed reviews. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic points out that the album is part of the spiritual and creative rebirth of Corgan after the end of Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan. Musically, he has turned away from the sound of his previous bands and instead relies on drum computers , synthesizers and brittle guitars. The lyrics of the album are more dramatic and emotional than anything Corgan has published so far. Stefan Friedrich from laut.de criticizes that TheFutureEmbrace "overall is a little irrelevant splashing around ". Corgan had already produced similar music at the end of the 1990s, but the songs lacked “that powerful something that turned the songs into hits”. Thomas Kerpen from Ox-Fanzine sees parallels in the album with the Smashing Pumpkins album Adore (1998) and classifies the music as “slightly morbid, psychedelic dream pop”.
