The Go-Go's are an Independent - pop band from California ( USA ), which was founded in the late 1970s and celebrated from 1981 to 1984 its greatest successes.
history
In 1978 the members of the band got together. They became known through appearances in the opening act of a Madness tour.
With the title Our Lips Are Sealed , she entered the charts for the first time in the summer of 1981 and in her home country up to number 20. Shortly afterwards, Beauty and the Beat, her first album, which even reached the top of the US charts. With We Got the Beat , they also reached the top ten in the single charts. Another top 10 success was the song Vacation , which came from the LP of the same name that was released a short time later and climbed to number 8.
After the third work Talk Show was published in the spring of 1984 and did not build on the success of its two predecessors, Jane Wiedlin left the band in the fall of the same year. After two appearances at Rock in Rio , the remaining members disbanded the group in May 1985.
In the spring of 1986 Belinda Carlisle started a successful solo career, in which she was particularly successful between autumn 1987 and summer 1996 and achieved seven top ten hits in Great Britain alone.
There was a reunion in 1990. Since then, the albums Return to the Valley of the Go-Go’s (1994) and God Bless the Go-Go’s (2001) have been released.
For the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Beauty and the Beat was released in a new edition in May 2011, expanded to include a concert recording from "Club Metro" in Boston from August 1981.
In August 2011, the band (in the cast Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine and Jane Wiedlin) was honored with a star in the music recording category on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . The star is located at 6652 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the former nightclub "The Masque", where the band first performed in 1978. In May 2018 Jane Wiedlin announced a musical about the work of go-go's; Premiere in New York on July 26th, 2018. The choreography is by Spencer Liff, the music by Tom Kitt.
