The GodFather is proprietary , free software for Windows for managing music files . It is available in German.

With The GodFather you can edit the metadata of the music files, also called tags ( Tag Editor ). There are numerous options available for this. You can insert the missing information manually, or you can, for example, determine the artist directly for an entire album and have this entered automatically in all music files. The GodFather also offers extensive possibilities to obtain information for the tags from the Internet ( CDDB ) or to derive them from the file names.

The software can also rename music files according to a freely selectable scheme. To do this, however, the tags mentioned above must be present, because The GodFather draws the information for renaming from these. In addition, this program offers a function for sorting the music into a certain directory structure and a not so sophisticated function for detecting duplicate music files. The program supports many popular music formats, in addition to MP3 , Ogg Vorbis , mpc, Monkey's Audio , FLAC , AAC , apl, wv, ofr and Speex are also supported. However, MP1 , MP2, and WMA file formats are not supported.

Another ability of the program is that you can adapt and start scripts from the program interface , which can greatly simplify renaming and sorting the music. Standard Pascal is used as the scripting language and some script examples are enclosed with the program during installation, which should facilitate the introduction to this technology.
