The Greatest Race on Earth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Greatest Race on Earth was a four-part marathon series in relay style. It was the world's only marathon series and team marathon competition and offered one of the highest prize pools in athletics at one million US dollars . This was organized by the Standard Chartered Bank from 2004 to 2009. The four stations served as the Nairobi Marathon , Singapore Marathon , Mumbai Marathon and Hong Kong Marathon , which were also sponsored by Standard Chartered. Teams of four runners of the same sex competed, each of whom started at one of the four stations. The winning team was determined by the shortest total time across all four stations. In addition to the full marathon, it was also possible for the teams to compete on the half marathon routes at the respective stations.
