The Nairobi Marathon (officially: Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon ) is a marathon in the Kenyan capital Nairobi and has been held annually since 2003, usually at the end of October. The event also includes a half marathon and a 10-kilometer run as well as a so-called Family Fun Run of around 4 kilometers in length. Around 22,000 runners have taken part in the races in recent years.
The Nairobi Marathon is one of the largest events of its kind in Africa and was part of the now discontinued The Greatest Race on Earth series . Due to the altitude of the route (approx. 1,650 m above sea level), it is a very demanding race.
