Evans Kiprop Cheruiyot (born May 10, 1982 in Kapkoi , Elgeyo-Marakwet County ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who is successful in the half marathon and the marathon route .

Career

Cheruiyot began running while training to be a mechanic with the National Youth Service (NYS). In October 2004 he won the Nairobi half marathon on his debut over this route . In 2005 he successfully competed in road races in France, but was cheated out of his money by his agent and had to enlist the help of the Kenyan embassy with a group of 14 other athletes in order to be able to return home.

In 2006 he won the Udine half marathon in 1:00:18 h , now supervised by the manager Federica Rosa, and came second in the Berlin half marathon in 59:29 minutes. In the following year he was third in the Berlin half marathon in 59:48 minutes, won the Rotterdam half marathon in 59:12 minutes and, with his best time to date, was third in the 2007 road running world championships in 59:05 minutes.

At the 2007 Milan Marathon , his debut over this distance, he won in 2:09:16 hours. In 2008 he won the Chicago Marathon in 2:06:25 hours, and in 2009 he finished eighth in the Boston Marathon .

In April 2015 he won the Enschede Marathon in 2:09:40 h .
